Manchester City’s quest for a fifth consecutive Premier League title took another hit as they squandered a 2-0 lead to settle for a dramatic draw against Brentford.

The Bees mounted a late resurgence, starting with Yoane Wissa’s goal in the 78th minute before captain Christian Norgaard’s 92nd-minute header secured a thrilling equaliser. Brentford nearly snatched a last-gasp victory in stoppage time, but Nathan Ake’s heroic goalline clearance denied Bryan Mbeumo’s curling effort.

City took the lead in the 66th minute when Phil Foden met Kevin De Bruyne’s exquisite cross with a deft side-footed volley. Brentford almost leveled the score five minutes later as Mbeumo rounded City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega to set up Wissa, but Ake intervened to clear the shot off the line.

Foden doubled City’s advantage in the 78th minute, pouncing on the rebound after Mark Flekken parried Savinho’s strike. City seemed destined for a third consecutive league victory, but Brentford had other plans.

Wissa reignited hope for the hosts, calmly slotting home from close range to register his 37th Premier League goal for the club, surpassing Ivan Toney as Brentford’s top scorer in the competition. In the dying moments, Norgaard completed the comeback, delighting the home crowd with a commanding header past Ortega.

The pulsating encounter at the Gtech Community Stadium ended with Brentford claiming a well-earned point while City’s title ambitions faced further uncertainty.
