Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day with parade
Brevard celebrated Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday with a parade and various commemorative events.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, commonly known as MLK Day, honors the legacy of the American civil rights leader. While the holiday is observed on the third Monday of January, it rarely coincides with King's actual birth date, January 15, 1929.
The Central Brevard Ministerial Coalition hosted its annual peace march and service at Cocoa Riverfront Park to mark the occasion.
In Melbourne, the Joseph N. Davis Community Center on Bruce D. Buggs Street hosted a youth basketball tournament in collaboration with the Melbourne Police PAL program and AAU teams. Chief Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church also joined the celebration with food trucks, music, and contests, creating a vibrant and engaging community gathering.
