Val Kilmer was bedridden for years prior to his tragic passing.

Val Kilmer was reportedly bedridden for years before his tragic death at the age of 65 on Tuesday, following a battle with pneumonia.

Sources close to the actor told TMZ that Kilmer struggled with fatigue from the treatments he underwent for throat cancer. Over the past week, his health had worsened, and he became increasingly frail. Family members visited him in the hospital shortly before his passing.

Kilmer’s daughter, Mercedes, 33, and son, Jack, 29, are now making arrangements for his funeral. The actor had been hospitalized earlier this year, though the reason for his stay was not disclosed.

Kilmer's last public appearance was in 2019, when he attended the Thespians Go Hollywood Gala with his daughter.

His health issues began in 2015 when he was diagnosed with throat cancer, but he was declared cancer-free in 2021. Unfortunately, the treatments, including two tracheotomies, left him unable to speak.

Despite losing his voice, Kilmer made a return to acting, reprising his role as Lt. Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, using AI technology to communicate.

Kilmer's daughter confirmed his passing at his Los Angeles estate on Tuesday, and she was photographed with her mother, Joanne Whalley, outside their home the following day.

Kilmer and Whalley, who met in 1986 while filming Willow, married in 1988 but divorced in 1996.
