Manhunt Underway After Minnesota Democratic House Leader Killed in ‘Politically Motivated’ Attack

A sweeping manhunt is in progress for 57-year-old Vance Boelter, the suspect in the deadly shooting of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman, the top Democrat in the state House. The attack, which officials describe as a politically motivated assassination, also left her husband dead.
Just nine miles away, State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also shot, allegedly by the same assailant. Both have undergone surgery and are currently recovering.
Authorities say the attacker was dressed as a police officer when they exited Hortman's home and opened fire on responding officers before fleeing. Investigators are examining whether the shooter may have worn a realistic latex mask to conceal their identity, a law enforcement source told CNN.
In a disturbing development, officials discovered a hit list in Boelter's vehicle, containing nearly 70 names—including other elected officials and abortion providers. Authorities have not confirmed whether anyone else is connected to the plot.
Governor Tim Walz condemned the attacks as a direct threat to democracy and pledged to bring the perpetrator to justice.
